Naturopathy, Nutrition and Diet

Naturopathy uses new and traditional diagnostic tools & treats the Whole Person with natural protocols such as Dietary Changes, the use of Natural Supplements,Detoxification,Homeopathy,Stress Management etc…

Old Traditional methods may rely on assessing the person by their “Constitution”, like for instance a Phlegmatic or Melancholic Nature in Traditional Western medicine, or * Vata, Pitta, Kapha “Dosha” in Ayurvedic Medicine…
A practitioner may ask to look at your Tongue, and feel your Pulse! (Though currently mostly practiced in Chinese Medicine, I remember my Dr. looking at my tongue when I was a child. Nowadays these skills are not put much to use).

The Advantage of traditional tools is that they are not costly, and are part of the consultation. If you want to be absolutely certain if you are allergic to a particular food, you may want to do an allergy test, rather than an exclusion diet for a while, though this may have benefits of its own. I would advise to discuss this with your Practitioner.

Naturopathic Dietary advice also relies on principles of Functional Medicine. It’s a new approach to helping people find a Balanced Health, based on modern, scientific & Nutritional Biochemistry, which takes the Biochemical Individuality of people into account. It’s aimed to treat people, not diseases. It looks at the body in an Integrative Way, not just separate systems such as the cardio-vascular system, or the digestive system. It looks for connections. It states that Health is not just the absence of Illness, but a state of Positive Well-Being.

Some signs may indicate straight up deficiencies: frequently sore cracked corners of lips may indicate a B Vitamin deficiency. Then other issues may be more complicated: Meniere’s disease for instance, can be caused by various factors such as allergies, or
stressed adrenal function to name a few.

New diagnostic tools are for instance Allergy tests, which can be done in a single consultation. Another popular test is a Hair Mineral Analysis to detect any heavy metals. Saliva tests may be good to aid determine your adrenal glands status…
